Villa Mercedes is located in Old Town Puerto Vallarta in a historic hacienda-style building built in the early 1950 ́s, at the time the first and only “finca” or weekend retreat in the once secluded and remote Los Muertos Beach. The property takes its name after its original owner, and has preserved most of its original architectural character through generations.
The hotel first opened to the public in 1998 as a family-run business, in 2013 the hotel changed hands and with it came new direction that enhanced the personalized service the hotel was already known for and restored the historic charm of the property. The facilities were completely revamped with unique Mexican design inspired by Puerto Vallarta ́s Golden years as a meeting point of the vernacular and international chic.
Authentic Mexican Design and Art are key components that consolidate the PETIT HOTEL ́s aesthetic. Interiors have been carefully designed balancing traditional Mexican décor and colorful textiles from the Southern region of Oaxaca combined with contemporary touches and vintage furniture pieces. Works of art by up and coming Mexican artists Ana Rifa and RHOM Design are playful and unique touches that contribute to the unique atmosphere.
Located steps away from the gay beach and in close proximity to gay night life, the PETIT HOTEL recognizes the importance of the LGBT market. We celebrate diversity and have been a member of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA) since 2009. The hotel is gay-owned, it is an active member of the Puerto Vallarta LGBT Business Association, and was one of the first supporters and still is an active supporter of Puerto Vallarta ́s Gay Pride.
Artist In Residence Program
The design component in the PETIT HOTEL is part of an evolving theme. Twice a year an artist is invited to create site-specific interventions in the property. Thus far RHOM Design created vintage tile mosaics work in the lobby and courtyard in 2013. LA-based Mexican artist Ana Rifa intervened walls in the lobby and hallways with pre-hispanic inspired themes executed in a contemporary and playful way through mural art in 2014.
